Injury Bug Continues To Haunt Pens

March 12th, 2008 by sheashu

To continue on with the theme of injuries from the last post, we lost at least two more for tonight’s game against Buffalo and potentially another. This is getting absolutely ridiculous. There, I said it. It seems like every day when I poke around on the hockey sites I find yet another Penguin will miss (x) amount of time due to injury. If you think I’m joking here’s a list to the best of my knowledge of who’s missed time this season:

Sidney Crosby
Marian Hossa
Gary Roberts
Marc-Andre Fleury
Mark Eaton
Adam Hall
Max Talbot
Erik Christensen (Yes I know he’s not on the team anymore, this is to illustrate a point)
Sergei Gonchar
Ryan Whitney……

You know what this could go on for a while so here’s the list of players who have played all 70 games for the Pens this season. Don’t blink or you might miss it.

Evgeni Malkin
Jordan Staal

That’s it. Two guys. Now I know some of the other guys on the list have missed only a couple and it’s only natural to expect players to miss time at some point during a season, but again this is getting insane.

Talbot and Petr Sykora are the latest Pens to have their wings clipped. Also, Crosby will not suit up tonight because of a sore ankle. Crosby expects to be back for Sunday’s game against Philly. He decided to sit out tonight after having some discomfort during the morning skate today.

Talbot will miss the game tomorrow against Buffalo and Sykora is questionable.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Talbot re-aggravated an ankle injury from earlier this season that kept him out during December and January including the Winter Classic.

Sykora on the other hand is having back problems. Both players did not participate in the team’s practice today.

To fill the roster spots the Pens recalled Ryan Stone and Connor James from Wilkes-Barre Scranton.

Stone has appeared in five games this season and has not yet recorded a point while James has appeared in eight games and has potted one goal. The lone goal was his first career goal and it came on the powerplay against the Islanders on Feb. 26. Click Here To See The Goal

One final note: Marian Hossa is not expected to suit up tonight and is looking to return on Sunday against the Flyers thus making yesterday’s post a moot point.
